QSI Pápa School Counseling Services: QSI Pápa is committed to providing quality education to its students. Student health and well-being are always the main priority. School counseling services assist students in meeting their full potential through academic, career, personal, and social development. As part of our comprehensive school counseling program, students may be referred to, or request, counseling services. These services are provided at no additional cost. School counseling is considered part of a school’s general education program and is accessible to all students. However, these services are not intended as a substitute for diagnosis or treatment of any mental health disorder.
Elementary Counseling: During the elementary years, students are just beginning to develop their academic self-concept, including attitudes about school, self, peers, their social groups, and family — as well as learning competence and confidence. The School Counselors are available to both students and families to assist with personal, social or academic difficulty. The counselors work closely with classroom teachers to implement a counseling program built around QSI’s Success Orientations as well as International School Counseling standards. In addition to the Success Orientations, classroom lessons are provided throughout the year to explore topics like friendship, problem-solving, emotion management, empathy and conflict resolution. Counselors work with classroom teachers to facilitate and coordinate appropriate interventions for students having difficulties. The Counselors are available for individual students to talk about concerns they may have and also meet with groups to develop social skills and deal with friendship and relational skills.
Middle School & Secondary Counseling: In Middle School, students pass from childhood to adolescence, they undergo rapid physical and emotional change. These students are struggling to find their identities, turning to peers more than parents, and trying to find the meaning in education in terms of real-life experience — among other issues. In Secondary, students are facing the final transition from high school into young adulthood. Students spend these years trying to figure out who they are and what should come next in the context of their strengths, skills, abilities, and interests.
Counseling services for all students may be provided through:
· Classroom counseling lessons
· Individual and small group counseling
· Consultation and collaboration with parents and teachers
· Parent presentations and workshops
· Referrals to other school support services or community resources
University Advising/Counseling: QSI Pápa offers specialized career and university counseling services that prepare students for the future and aid in their college or university search process. We strive to work with students to highlight their individuality and their passions, provide strategic guidance throughout the application process, increase university admissions competitiveness for our students, and help students make informed decisions about their university choices.
Confidentiality: Trust is the cornerstone of counseling. School counselors have the responsibility to respect and safeguard the right to privacy and confidentiality of a student except for certain limited conditions. These conditions include if a student demonstrates harm to self, to others, or if there is known, or suspected, child abuse or neglect. School counselors may share student information with parents, the student’s teacher(s), and/or administrators or school personnel who work with the student on a need- to- know basis, to better assist the student as a team. School counselors will inform students of these limits to confidentiality before sharing information with others.
